QUALIFICATIONS:

High School Diploma or equivalent, and either a Florida Building or General Contractor License or Certification as a Standard Inspector in one of the four disciplines pursuant to Chapter 468, Florida Statutes, must have the ability to obtain license and certification within 1 year of employment.

WORK EXPERIENCE:

Five (5) years minimum experience as a building inspector, construction superintendent or foreman, building contractor or owner construction project representative

Position Goal:

This position assists in the planning, administration and performs code inspection of capital improvement and maintenance projects, and assists school administration in minor project planning and accomplishing needed capital improvements and facilities related services.

Examples of Responsibilities:

Responsible for required Florida Building Code inspections of construction, maintenance, and repair projects per Chapter 553, Florida Statutes.

Oversee and investigate all areas and stages of construction to assure compliance with the contract documents and district standards, without assuming the contractor or architects responsibility for the administration of the work.

Report daily on the status of construction, number of contractor personnel, work completed, inspections performed, issues resolved and unresolved, potential delays and cost impacts.

Oversee all construction testing and other required inspections.

Review and properly file/archive construction documents, correspondence, progress schedules, shop drawings and submittals, invoices, and other documents pertaining to the planning, design and construction of the project by both paper and electronic means.

Prepare Certificates of Occupancy for approval by the design professional and Building and Fire Code Official.

Notify immediately the contractor, design professional and Building and Fire Code Official if work being installed is inconsistent with the Florida Building Code.

Prepare and respond in a timely manner to correspondence and messages from both firms and district staff.

Notify immediately the design professional and contractor if work being installed is inconsistent with the contract documents and building code.

Coordinate, schedule, and oversee project systems and equipment tests, staff training, and orientation programs for projects.

Coordinate, schedule, and oversee post occupancy, warranty and maintenance support services.

Assist the department in near and long-range facilities planning and budgeting needs and programs.

Assist department and district staff with overall project administration and required tasks to plan and successfully complete projects.

Investigate facilities issues and deficiencies and assist in developing rational and effective solutions.

Assist in performing facility and safety inspections as needed.

Coordinate required review of projects with applicable governmental agencies.

Maintain and enter timely data into the district’s project administration system to ensure accurate and orderly records of active construction project documents.
