QUALIFICATIONS:

Formal Education:

Bachelors Degree or higher from an accredited college or university. Must be a Certified Building Official/Licensed Building Code Administrator in the State of Florida.

Five (5) years minimum experience as a building inspector, building plans examiner, building code administrator, or project field representative within Florida. Educational Facilities experience preferred.

Must have a valid Florida Driver’s License.

Position Goal: This position is primarily responsible for providing building code administration, plan review, and inspection services in accordance with the requirements set forth in the Florida Building Code and Florida Statute. To assure that architectural and engineering plans and specifications meet Florida Department of Education rules and regulations.

Examples of Responsibilities:

Provide building code administration support.

Perform plan review of new construction, remodel and renovation projects throughout the District to meet the requirements of the Florida Building Code, DOE design standards, and District design standards.

Perform inspections of new construction, remodel and renovation projects throughout the District to meet the requirements of the Florida Building Code, DOE design standards, District design standards, and approved construction documents and specifications.

Provide technical support and code interpretation, when requested, for the Coordinator, Building & Fire Code in relation to the Florida Building Code.

Provide plan review services for approved shop drawings for compliance with technical codes and design standards.

Make recommendations for process improvements to administration in relation to the Code Compliance & Environmental Safety Department.

Prepare detailed reports of inspection findings and coordinating necessary re-inspections with contractors, appropriate Facilities Department staff, and Maintenance Supervisors.

Issue the Annual Facilities Maintenance Permit and monitor/inspect all work associated with the Annual Facilities Maintenance Permit.

Provide appropriate Facilities Department staff with interpretations of the Florida Building Code.

Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned by Supervisor.

Work requires physical exertion and/or muscle strain. Work involves several disagreeable elements and exposure to job hazards where there is some possibility of injury including but not limited to, the use of ladders, heavy lifting, climbing and traversing potentially hazardous construction sites and temporary staging areas.
