Job Description


Master’s degree required in social work, psychology, or counseling and State Certification in School Social Work. License preferred.

Minimum five (5) years prior work-related experience.

Position Goal: Serve as a liaison between school personnel, district departments, homeless families, and community agencies. Provide advocacy and assistance on meeting the physical, social, emotional, and developmental needs of homeless students to enhance their functioning within the school program.

Examples of Responsibilities:

Identify homeless students, maintain a program database, and write reports as required by district, state, and/or federal agencies.

Serve as a liaison between school personnel, parents, community agencies, and service providers.

Collaborate with other district, state, and/or federal programs regarding specialists in providing materials and instruction for homeless students.

Develop, coordinate, and facilitate districtwide professional development trainings regarding homeless education issues.

Serve as a liaison regarding transportation issues to ensure academic, social, and emotional stability.

Represent Osceola County on community task forces regarding homeless services and state/national conferences.

Obtain resources necessary to promote educational readiness.

Conduct site visits to collect information regarding student needs.

Complete an annual Needs Assessment and conduct continuing program improvement based on the outcome of the assessment.

Act as a mediator during dispute resolution hearings, provide documentation to state Department of Education, and maintain site paperwork.

Promote community awareness of the Families in Transition (FIT) Program through local media and community presentations.

Monitor Title X McKinney-Vento subgrant documentation and assist in writing the Title I grant application.

Perform other work-related duties as assigned by supervisor.
