Support Staff-Substitute-Interpreter (ASL-American Sign Language)
High school diploma or equivalent required.
Ability to follow instructions and work well with others.
Completion of appropriate preservice or inservice training program for interpreters.
Hold a minimum of Educational Interpreter Evaluation Level 1 or equivalent.
Position Goal: This position is responsible for serving as an interpreter for hearing impaired students.
Examples of Responsibilities:
To follow the classroom schedule and interpret for student(s) as dictated by individual student's IEP.
To interpret in sign language all activities in the classroom such as: lectures, conversations, films, special projects, assemblies, etc.
To do voice interpreting as needed.
To be available on a need basis for school functions outside the classroom, but only during regularly scheduled school hours.
To participate as a part of the instructional team and be able to interpret directions and assist in providing continuity of instruction for students so identified in their individual IEPs.
To exhibit an interest for self-improvement in signing ability, interpreting skills and to establish a better understanding of the educational process.
To attend all inservice programs and staff meetings as directed by the Principal.
Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor.

Educational Interpreter Evaluation Level II 1KA plus inservice salary incentives
Educational Interpreter Evaluation Level III 1KB plus inservice salary incentives
Must be able to exert 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Physical Demand requirements are in excess of those for Light Work.
